Los Angeles-based indie record label POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS – which produces, promotes and releases various flavors of indie rock, reggae, soul, folk and alternative music–has announced the signing of Cincinnati singer songwriter and American Songwriter Magazine contest winner, JAY MADERA.

His debut LP will be released Friday, MARCH 26 via iTunes, bandcamp and all other digital retailers, plus select record stores. Physical copies will be available at www.popcautiousrecords.com/shop.

POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS signed MADERA earlier this year. After local buzz and national radio airplay with his first few singles released over the past year, Anxious Armada is the musical muckraker’s first full artistic statement. With vulnerable subject matters and exacting lyricism, MADERA’s diverse palettes of indie folk and rock prove to be a beacon for modern self-empowerment.

In just over 40 minutes, Anxious Armada is marked by its contradiction, divisiveness, and balance. Beginning with the shockingly positive lead-off political anthem, “A House Divided,” the political and the personal are immediately merged. Tinkering with the famous words of Abraham Lincoln, MADERA demonstrates the need to look behind “the smokescreen” to stop the fall. Psychedelic rock standout “Screensaver” begins with the cry of a distorted sitar alluring to far away lands, only to know we will see these worlds through an electronic screen: “If I look with my own eyes, is the footage not as nice as I anticipated?” MADERA dares himself to “Let it all go to black.”

The album’s climax, the lush orchestration of “A Faithful Foil,” which is really a part one to part two’s “Janus-Faced,” the spare admittance of struggling toward self-love, and being unable to find it through another: “Tell me now does my hair look okay, ‘cause you always saw the good side of me.”

Treading water and trembling in its own wake, MADERA’s musical warship is waiting just offshore. Look for JAY MADERA’s Anxious Armada on March 26, available on all digital streaming platforms, compact disc, and vinyl via his bandcamp.
